Natural gas leak near old Peavey Mart

The Grande Prairie Fire Department is currently responding to a gas leak in the Riocan Centre near Michaels and the old Peavey Mart. Platoon Chief Ward Redwood says a line was hit by someone digging, and ATCO Gas is already on the scene.

The closest building, which houses Chopped Leaf and Tokyo Ichiban, has been evacuated, although no injuries have been reported. The area has also been cordoned off, and while you can smell the natural gas nearby, there’s no public safety risk.

Authorities will stay in the area until it’s determined safe to keep digging.
