Evergreen Ridge Recreation Area users urged to use caution with ongoing firebreak construction

Evergreen Recreational Area and nearby crown land users are being urged to exercise caution while construction of the Southeast Grande Prairie Firebreak is in progress. According to County of Grande Prairie Officials, the recreation area is being used as an access point for heavy equipment, and those trying to access Crown land to the east “may encounter construction.”

Parks and Recreation Manager for the county Christine Rawlins says some people may want to even reevaluate their plans.

“The public may wish to consider using other trails in the region while the firebreak is being constructed, and to avoid any active construction areas where heavy equipment is being operated,” Rawlins says.

Parking in the recreation area may also be reduced during the construction because of heavy equipment. Single-lane parking is also available along Range Road 55, however, it is only the west side. According to officials while pets must remain on a leash in the recreation area, they are also recommended to remain on a leash while in the area of the Crown land where heavy equipment is being operated.
