One arrested as Grande Prairie RCMP investigate string of suspicious fires

Grande Prairie RCMP is investigating five suspicious fires which happened in six hours between May 15th and 16th.

The Grande Prairie Fire Department and RCMP first responded to a bushfire on the disc golf course in Muskoseepi trails around 10:08 p.m. Monday. According to RCMP “A male suspect with a black hat and black jacket was seen leaving [the] area southbound on the trail towards 84th Avenue.”

Officials then responded to a brush fire in the area of 85th Street and 102nd Ave at 10:36 p.m., and two brush fires in the area of 108th Street and 117th Avenue at 11:14 p.m. On Tuesday crews responded to a structure fire in the area of 104th Street and 102nd Ave where “A shed on a vacant lot had been set on fire” at 1:05 a.m., first responders then took on the final call at 4:09 a.m. which was a grass fire in the area of 96th Street and 94th Avenue. According to police in all these incidents the fires were put out and no injuries were reported.

Officials say one person has been arrested in relation to the grass fire in the area of 96th Street and 94th Ave. Anyone with video surveillance from these areas around the time of the incidents or who has information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
