Unseasonably hot, dry forecast prompts special weather statement for Grande Prairie region

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Grande Prairie region as temperatures 10 to 15 degrees Celcius higher than average are expected to blanket the area starting this weekend.

The national meteorological service is reporting that daytime highs are expected to be in the high 20s to low 30s between Sunday and Tuesday, with overnight lows only dipping to the low teens.

With elevated temperatures, the risk of heat related illnesses will also increase.

Grande Prairie also remains under a special air quality advisory, as smoke from wildfires in Alberta continues to blow in and out of the region.
