Additional firefighters arrive to support fight against Dunes West Wildfire

As of 9:30 a.m. Monday, 20 of the requested 100 additional firefighters arrived in the Grande Prairie area to provide local responders with relief and shift change support as they battle the Dunes West wildfire.

According to the Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership, along with the additional firefighter support, provincial specialists in forestry behaviour and structural protection, county public works equipment, and four bucketing helicopters will be supporting crews as they battle the fire.

According to the GPREP overnight Sunday, crews focused on hotspot fires and protecting properties by putting sprinklers in place.

An information session will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday for evacuees of the Dunes West Wildfire. Officials from the County of Grande Prairie and members of the GPREP will be holding the session at Evaskevich Hall in the TARA Centre at Evergreen Park.
