Friday was another day of record heat in Grande Prairie. It reached a high of 29 degrees around 3 p.m., passing the previous May 5th record high of 28.3 degrees set a decade ago in 2013.
The day also set a new minimum low for the Grande Prairie Airport. The coldest it got was 8.8 degrees, warmer than the low of 7.5 degrees experienced on May 5, 2006.
The heat of the day was overshadowed by wildfire smoke blowing into the region from wildfires across the province. The skies darkened in the afternoon and turned orange.
Daily record highs were also recorded in Grande Prairie on April 29th and 30th and May 3rd.
