UPDATE: Fox Creek evacuation order expanded to include Little Smoky, surrounding areas

UPDATE #3: As of 1:14 p.m. the evacuation order has expanded to include the region from Fox Creek to Little Smoky and all areas immediately surrounding these communities.

UPDATE #2: As of 11:39 a.m. the evacuation order has been expanded to include the entire community of Fox Creek and its surrounding areas.

UPDATE: As of 8:33 a.m. Saturday, the Town of Fox Creek and the immediate area are under an evacuation order. People are being told to evacuate immediately to Whitecourt using Highway 43.

The reception centre is the Allan and Jean Millar Centre at 58 Sunset Boulevard. Residents are asked to register there.

People who do not have transportation or need bussing are told to go to the Fox Creek Community Hall parking lot. Call 780-622-4412 for help.

The largest wildfire in the area is listed as out-of-control at an estimated size of 3,381 hectares. At 8 a.m. Saturday, the town said winds had shifted as well.

Everyone in Fox Creek and the surrounding area is being warned to prepare for a possible evacuation. A wildfire is burning east of the community.

According to Alberta Wildfire, it is considered out-of-control and is estimated to be 3,381 hectares in size. The cause is under investigation.

Fox Creek residents are encouraged to gather their pets, important documents, and medication, as well as enough food, water, and supplies for three days. An emergency alert will be issued if an evacuation is required.
