A fire ban and OHV restriction is in effect for all Forest Protection Areas across Alberta due to extreme fire danger. During a fire ban, all existing permits in a forest area are suspended, and no new fire permits will be issued.
All outdoor wood fires are banned, including wood campfires on public lands, wood campfires on private land, and provincial campgrounds. All off-highway vehicle use on public lands, including designated trails is prohibited as well. Propane and natural gas-powered appliances, as well as indoor wood fires contained within a device with a chimney and spark arrestor are still allowed under the restriction.
Alberta Wildfire officials say as of the morning of May 5th, 78 wildfires were reported across the province, already burning upwards of 25,000 hectares of land.
