Pair of heat records set in Grande Prairie over the weekend

If it felt unseasonably warm in Grande Prairie over the weekend, that’s because it was the hottest April 29th and 30th on record. According to Environment Canada, Saturday’s high of 24.3 degrees Celsius toppled the previous maximum high record of 23.5 degrees Celsius set in 1989.

Meanwhile, Sunday saw a high of 27.2 degrees Celsius, which surpassed the former record high of 26 degrees Celsius from 1987. While the temperatures have made spring seem a little more like summer, the hot, dry conditions have prompted a fire advisory for the entirety of the County of Grande Prairie, as well as throughout the Grande Prairie Forest Area.
