Premier Danielle Smith says the United Conservative Party will bolster transportation infrastructure in the Grande Prairie region, to create a scenario in which products can move more freely to and from the market.
“What we wanna do is make sure that we are building out the transportation infrastructure so that it is easier to get between all of the centers out in northern Alberta, says Smith. “I’m looking forward to making sure that we really create the North as the powerhouse it should be.”
Smith says they are working with officials in British Columbia, as well as municipalities in northern Alberta, and Alaska to find opportunities to create what she refers to as an economic corridor.
“Opportunities for us to create a new economic corridor so that we have opportunities not only for people moving but also for our products to get to market. Says Smith, “Grande Prairie is an energy and food production powerhouse, and we want to ensure we leverage both.”
Smith also commented on plans to work toward having direct flights from Grande Prairie beyond the scope of Calgary and Edmonton, suggesting it’s an issue that needs to be looked at in-depth.
Premier Smith appeared at the Grande Prairie Regional Tourism Associations’ strategic management plan launch on Thursday.
