Wildfire risk raised to high in Grande Prairie Forest Area

Alberta Wildfire officials have raised the wildfire risk level in the Grande Prairie Forest Area to high. Residents are being reminded improperly extinguished fires can easily respark, especially when high winds are involved and are urging those who frequent the area to check on winter burn sites.

As of April 26th, eight wildfires have been reported in the region, five of which have been put out. According to officials, one is listed as under control.

Fire permits are required for all burning in the area, and anyone looking for more information can visit the Alberta Wildfire website. Wildfire season in the province started on March 1st and will run until October 31st.

Anyone who spots a wildfire can report it by calling 310-FIRE.
