Clairmont Access Program receiving positive feedback to date: County officials

According to a report presented at the County of Grande Prairie Committee of the Whole meeting, since being launched in November of last year, the Clairmont Access Program has received primarily positive feedback.

The program allows each household taking part to dispose of 1,000 kilograms of free waste a year, equaling 2,200 pounds. With the average household disposing of 156 large bags of garbage or 52 full curbside waste collection carts annually.

Each home’s waste weight is calculated by residents swiping their Waste Card at the card scanners at the scale house, where visitor loads are tallied. The weight will be added to the household’s total for the year; while there is no limit on each house’s recycling. During their presentation administration noted they are encouraging households who still have not gotten their new Waste Card to apply on the county’s website.

To help residents have better access to the Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management, $51,000 in capital funding has been slated for road and fencing improvements around the facility.
