County seek community feedback to improve local development process

The County of Grande Prairie is launching an initiative they refer to as ‘Plan Your County’, a process they will use to review the entire body of planning documents including bylaws, strategies, and guidelines for local development.

Planning Manager Reed Desroches says it’s been about a quarter century since the last major overhaul of the process, and since then the conditions in the region and the needs of the community have changed significantly.

“It’s important every once in a while to go back to the community and ensure these documents align with their needs and what they see as the future for the community.”

Desroches says it is important to hear from the residents as it will allow them to make better plans for the County’s development.

“Ultimately, this work will improve the development process, create appropriate development opportunities, and ensure the County is growing in a way that aligns with the vision that residents have for our County.”

The project will begin with the creation of something they called the ‘Hamlet Resiliency Strategy’ and a review of the current Municipal Development Plan. The Hamlet Resiliency Strategy will allow residents to provide their input and a survey asking them what they would love to see within the County’s nine rural hamlets.

Drop-in information sessions for the Hamlet Resiliency Strategy are set to start from April 24th to June 8th with a full schedule online.
