RCMP issue warning, investigating possible ongoing scam in Beaverlodge area

Beaverlodge RCMP is informing the community of a possible ongoing after at least one report of it happening in the area. According to officials they received the complaint on April 14th after a resident hired a company to pave their driveway and were billed substantially more than the agreed amount.

According to police typical things residents should look for in this type of scam is someone coming to your home saying they have extra materials from a paving job nearby, their equipment and company vehicles have limited to no company details and their business cards only have their first name on them. Officials explain in these situations the scammers will either money and not start the job, or demand money above the agreed-upon amount and threaten legal action. To avoid falling victim to a scam RCMP advises hiring a reputable well known business, checking credentials, and not providing the full payment until the work is complete.

Officials are asking anyone who has been approached by an individual or business making these claims to call RCMP and report it.
