Canada Day festivities underway Tuesday

Two days of festivities are planned for Grande Prairie residents to celebrate Canada’s 148th birthday this week. There will be events at Muskoseepi Park tomorrow starting at 8 pm leading up to the fireworks at midnight.

Muskoseepi Park Program Events Manager Carla Wells says things will continue on Canada Day, starting with the annual parade.

“So at 1 pm we have the parade, it starts at the back of Hillside School and is going to turn onto 100th Avenue and go all the way west down 100th, ending at the GPRC.”

This Canada Day is also a celebration of the 50th anniversary of our country’s flag. Wells encourages everyone to get especially decked out in Maple Leafs this year to recognize the milestone.

“We’re going to try and put more flags into the park and just encourage people to show a little bit more patriotism. We’ve got some really cool trivia questions about the flag so if you’re a trivia person and you want to look things up about the flag, we’re going to have some questions with some fun prizes for the kids.”

The party will continue on at Muskoseepi Park on Wednesday following the Canada Day parade.
