Savanna School to build rock climbing Wall:PWPSD

Savanna School of PWPSD will see a new rock climbing gymnasium thanks to a $50,000 donation from Saddle Hills County. Co-Principal Chris Young says he got the idea of having a climbing wall at the school from an advertisement he once saw for a climbing instructor course, and decided to present the idea to Saddle Hills County Council.

“It got me thinking about what it would take to have our wall at the school, so I presented the idea to our staff hoping for a volunteer to complete the training and Mrs. Starleigh Earl stepped up,” says Young.

Construction is scheduled for summer and an unveiling is anticipated to take place in September 2023. Young says he is excited and that the whole Savanna School staff and students are extremely grateful for the financial support.

“I’m always looking for ways to increase community pride in our school. I want our students to feel lucky to live here and attend Savanna School, so I’m really excited to get our own rock climbing wall.”

Other donors making the construction possible are the training bursary from Obair Economic Society of Dawson Creek, BC, and the engineering expertise from SPA Engineering.
