UPDATE: Fish and Wildlife have wrapped up an investigation into the incident, and say the girl was not attacked by a coyote, but rather a domestic dog.
Fish and Wildlife have passed the information gathered by their investigation on to the Valleyview RCMP and Bylaw enforcement in that community for their use.
An 11 year old girl is recovering from what’s believed to have been a coyote attack in Valleyview.
The girl’s mother Lolene Veronica Young-Condon told CTV Edmonton that they were stargazing around 1 a.m. Saturday when she went into her house. She then heard screeching sounds outside and saw the animal on top of her daughter Katie.
It ran into the woods and they rushed Katie to the hospital, where she received more than 20 stitches in her arm. They also came to Grande Prairie for some needles.
According to her mother, Katie has been traumatized by the incident and doesn’t want to spend time outside anymore.
