Grande Prairie Sikh community raises Sikh Flag at city hall

Members of the Grande Prairie Sikh community raised the Sikh flag at city hall to celebrate Sikh Heritage Month. Sikhism is a religion based on Guru Nanak’s teaching of equality, social justice, service to humanity, and tolerance for other religions.

Executive Committee member for the Gursikh Missionary Society Satbir Baidwan says the event is one of many their community use to teach the children about their religion, and culture.

“It is important for us you know a lot of us moved away from home, and we really want to keep our traditions and our culture alive. And the focus is always to teach our kids because they are the next generation.” Says Baidwan

Baidwan adds it is important to keep his teaching and the religion so it does not get lost from generation to generation.
