ATB Financial CEO name chair of royalty review panel

The CEO of ATB Financial, Dave Mowat, has been announced as the man who will lead the royalty review of energy companies in Alberta.

Energy Minister and Dunvegan-Central Peace-Notley MLA Marg McCuaig-Boyd made the announcement earlier today, saying that Mowat’s first task will be to establish a panel that can carefully consider the issues and engage meaningfully with stakeholders and Albertans alike.

“The panel’s role will then be to listen to the views of Albertans, industry, and other stakeholders. Dave has assured me that the process will be transparent and engaging. This is a complicated subject and Albertans will benefit from a clearer understanding of the issues.”

The rest of the panel members and more details on the consultation process are expected to be announced in the weeks to come. Mowat says it is a daunting challenge but also a great opportunity to help all Albertans better understand such an important issue.

“My commitment to everyone is to present the facts and create a discussion with all stakeholders, a discussion that builds on understanding and creating common ground that we all must reach to be successful.”

Mowat says he owes a responsibility to all 4 million plus of Alberta’s natural resource owners. He will spend the next month getting organized and begin his work in earnest later this summer.
