Northwestern Polytechnic adding new healthcare programs

Northwestern Polytechnic is adding two new healthcare programs that are reportedly in high demand. In 2024, the polytechnic will launch a Primary Care Paramedic certificate at both the Grande Prairie and Fairview campuses, as well as a Practical Nurse diploma to its Fairview Campus starting this fall.

Vice-President Academic and Research Dr. Vanessa Sheane says it is great news for the polytechnic and the region as healthcare professions have been needed.

“This expanded programming in Fairview and brand-new Primary Care Paramedic offering come at a time when we are seeing the unprecedented need for health care professionals,” says Sheane

President Justin Kohlam says this is the latest of the many expansions since becoming a polytechnic in 2022.

“This is again something we expect to be in great demand among students and we know from the industry that they really want us to support this. Our goal is to keep offering programs that are in demand among students and industry and keep growing our numbers.”

Kohlman adds that what they are trying to do is work with the government to meet the demands of industry. The school received about $1.3 million for the two programs.
