The Highland Games are returning to Grande Prairie for the first time since 2019. The event will include heavy athletic competitions, sheepdogs, and highland dancing.
Grande Prairie Highland Games Association Chair Margaret Popek says she is very excited to bring back the event since they have missed a couple of years due to COVID-19.
“It is very important to us to keep our Scottish heritage alive and to teach the people of Peace Country what highland games are all about.”
Popek says they are putting together this event so people could feel like they have actually been to Scotland.
“You know it’s the same as people going to Scotland for the Highland Games, but they don’t have to go all the way there they can just experience it here.”
Popek says the turnout will also depend on the weather on the day of the event but she is hoping for many people to come.
The games will be held in the field outside the Montrose Cultural Centre on June 10th.
