Ron Wiebe announced as UCP candidate for Grande Prairie-Wapiti

The United Conservative Party has announced Ron Wiebe will be its candidate for the Grande Prairie – Wapiti riding in the spring election.

According to his biography, the Grande Prairie entrepreneur has been involved in several start-ups, including being one of the founders of Wiebe Transport, and has spent most of his career in the transportation industry. Wiebe served as a municipal councillor in Mackenzie County and is on the board of governors at Northwestern Polytechnic. He has served on numerous other boards over the years including the Grande Prairie Christian School Board and MCC Alberta Board.

Premier Danielle Smith announced Wiebe’s candidacy along with Joseph Angeles for Edmonton-South and Cheryl Seaborn for Lethbridge-West Thursday.

“After several conversations with these individuals and their local boards, I am confident they will do a tremendous job representing our party in their local constituencies of Lethbridge – West, Grande Prairie – Wapiti, and Edmonton – South, respectively.”

Wiebe will be running in the space left by Finance Minister and Grande Prairie-Wapiti MLA Travis Toews, who announced he would not be seeking re-election earlier in March.
