IG Walk for Alzheimer’s back in Grande Prairie May 27th

The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s is back in Grande Prairie on Saturday, May 27th.

The event supports the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories. Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories Regional Lead Jennifer Simms says the walk is very important as it helps raise awareness and funds for a disease that affects many individuals and families in the community.

“We know that 46% of Canadians admit that they would feel ashamed or embarrassed if they had dementia. So being able to promote a walk to reduce the stigma and raise awareness is really helpful. says Simms “For people to know that they are not alone is also helpful because the journey of dementia can be very difficult.”

According to Simms the IG Walk for Alzheimer’s is one of the largest Society’s community fundraisers and it has helped raise over $200,000 annually.

“We have over 1000 participates and being able to have community members come out and support each other the more we can have conversions regarding Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.”

According to IG Wealth Management website, the IG Walk for Alzheimer’s has raised over $41 million for people living with dementia and their care partners since 2015. You can register for the walk through Muskoseepi Park here.
