Second Grande Gathering Gala set for June

The Grande Prairie Friendship Centre is hosting the second Grande Gathering Gala to help raise funds for the organization’s programs. The event is intended to showcase the strength, resiliency, cultures, and positive things that have happened in the Indigenous community in the Grande Prairie region.

Committee Chair Lois Duke says it has been their dream at the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre to show the good things the Indigenous community brings to Grande Prairie and show off their tremendous talents.

“We are very excited that the City of Grande Prairie has welcomed and opened its [arms] to this event, and we are looking forward to putting on another wonderful evening for the community. We were able to bring new programs and initiatives to meet the goals of the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre, including providing over 7,000 meals a month for the community of Grande Prairie.”

The event will feature Indigenous talent, an Indigenous-inspired menu, a live Indigenous Artist, and cultural artisans throughout the night. There will also be a live and silent auction, and raffle.

Last year, the inaugural gala raised over $130,000, with the funds going into community programming. Duke says they are hopeful they will raise more than last year’s total, as they have been learning and building connections since.

The gala will take place at Bonnetts Energy Centre on June 17th.
