Local biathlete hosting fundraising dinner to help pay for international competition travel

Family and friends of Liam Tinworth are hosting a fundraiser in Grande Prairie to support Tinworth’s training and traveling expenses.

Tinworth is an amateur athlete born and raised in Grande Prairie, who started out cross-country skiing in the local Jackrabbit program when he was 8 years old, followed by the Biathlon and Cross Country competitive teams at Wapiti Nordic. This year, Tinworth qualified for his first international competition and was able to compete in Italy and Austria.

Fundraising Committee representative and Friends of Northern Nordic Sports Amanda Udey says supporting Tinworth is very important as he is a 3rd generation member of the community and is representing the city.

“We are hosting this fundraising to help him with the cost of training and international travel and working toward the goal which is to represent Grande Prairie and Canada on the world stage.”

Tinworth is required to pay for each competition and tour that he participates in for the 2023/2024 season with an approximate cost of $30,000. The supports needed include auction items and sponsorship opportunities.

The Fundraising dinner will take place at The Lion’s Den Pub on April 29th.

People willing to donate can email Tinworth’s fundraising committee by email.
