GPPSD Superintendent Sandy McDonald honoured with leadership award

Grande Prairie Public School Division Superintendent Sandy McDonald has been honored with the provincial EXL award for Excellence in School System Leadership.

The EXL award is granted to outstanding school system leaders who show excellent leadership ability and have strengthened the school system administration profession throughout their careers.

McDonald says he is honored and appreciative to be recognized for telling the story of the great work that happens at the Grande Prairie Public School Division.

“I’m very humbled and honored to be recognized by my peers for the professional college for the work that I am lucky to do in our school division.”

“I have received great support over the years from our board of trustees and I work with amazing people in my office and our school who would do amazing things for our students,” he adds.

McDonald says he wants to see every student succeed and that is where he got his motivation to do the work.

GPPSD School Board Chair, Joan Nellis, on behalf of the board says McDonald has dedicated himself to students’ success and has helped the board make good decisions.

“Superintendent McDonald actively embraces and immerses himself in leadership. His style is collaborative and inclusive, respectful, and thoughtful. His drive for constant improvement is evident.”

McDonald will be at the Canadian Association of School System Administrators nominee for the national EXL award as Canadian Superintendent of the year, which will be announced at the Canadian Association of School System Administrators Conference in Victoria, BC from July 5 to 7 2023.
