Grande Prairie Storm hand out regular season awards

CORRECTION: Ayden Peters received the Rookie of the Year Award from Jordan Menzies, Peter Copetti received the Most Improved Award from Mark Malekoff, and Logan Cunningham received the Unsung Hero award from Clint Atkinson. It was originally reported Menzies, Malekoff and Atkinson received the three awards.

While the playoff push didn’t last as long as the team had hoped, the Grande Prairie Storm have handed out awards to the standout players from the regular season that helped get them there.

To go along with his AJHL Goaltender of the Year award, Connor Mackenzie was named Grande Prairie Storm regular season MVP. Mackenzie led the league with .929 save percentage and a goals-against average of 2.86, with two shutouts in 38 games.

Ty Toews was named the team’s best two-way player, with Hudson Foley taking home the Brian Nash Memorial Scholarship for his efforts during the regular season. The Most Dedicated Player award went to Nathan Rickey, while Wesley Golden and Robert Pizzey were honoured with the Community Involvement and Hustler Awards, respectively.

Other award winners include Ayden Peters taking home Rookie of the Year honours. Peter Copetti was named the team’s Most Improved Player with Logan Cunningham named the season’s unsung hero.
