Community rallies behind teacher with brain tumour

A variety show held to benefit a local high school teacher has raised nearly $6,900 towards her urgently needed surgery. Shannon Schipper was diagnosed with a brain tumour in January, after years of symptoms that grew more and more severe.

In order to remove the 10 millimetre cyst, complicated brain surgery is needed. A doctor in Houston, Texas is taking on the risk, which means out-of-country travel costs and out-of-pocket medical expenses for 37 year old Schipper, who is a wife, mother of three, and teacher at Peace Wapiti Academy.

A previous steak dinner helped raise nearly $20,000, and an online fundraiser is at almost $88,000.
