County appoints veteran health official Director of Community Services

The County of Grande Prairie has hired Darryl Martin as the new Director of Community Services. Martin comes to the county from Alberta Health Services where he worked in emergency response management for 15 years. During his time with AHS, Martin led emergency response teams for the fires in Slave Lake, Fort McMurray and High Level. He also led AHS emergency response teams for several other events including floods, widespread utility disruption and most recently the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before working in emergency response management Martin was a ground and air paramedic for Emergency Medical Services for 19 years. Martin comes into the position with knowledge of the county having raised his family in Beaverlodge.

“I am looking forward to beginning this new role and getting to know the teams and people that I will be supporting,” Martin says. “The County is a busy and dynamic organization, but I believe that my experience will be an asset in supporting the initiatives that are underway in the Community Services department and the organization as a whole.”

Agriculture, Family and Community Support Services, Parks and Recreation, Regional Enforcement Services and the Regional Fire Service will be under Martins’s leadership in his new role. He will also bring his knowledge of emergency response management to oversee the county’s emergency and disaster services portfolio, including the Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership.
