Fatal Grovedale fire sparked by electronic dehorning device

An electronic dehorning device is being blamed for starting a fire that led to the death of a 98-year-old man in Grovedale. Greenview Fire-Rescue Services were called to the scene of the house fire in the area of Range Road 65 and Township Road 693 in the early morning hours of November 15th.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze and pull the unconscious resident from the home, but efforts by firefighters and EMS to revive him were unsuccessful. At the time, Grande Prairie Rural RCMP said his death was not deemed to be suspicious.

Regional Fire Chief Wayne Brown says the fire investigator determined that the fire started in the bedroom and was caused by an electronic dehorning device.
