Local events shedding light on Addiction Awareness Week

Alberta Health Services is focusing on “A Community of Caring” during this year’s National Addiction Awareness Week. From November 22nd to November 25th there are more than a dozen events taking place in Grande Prairie to highlight the prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery of addiction.

Alberta Health Services says the week of sheds light on the complexities of addiction and how “the effects of addiction go beyond the individual, and may include their family, friends, and society.”

One of the events taking place this week is a two-part series called “Let’s Talk about Anger” at the Grande Prairie Public Library which will take place both in person and online. There also will be several booths throughout the region set up to teach people how to properly use and administer Naloxone.

Alberta Health Services is also sharing several resources that are available for those who are looking. The main focus of these resources is on well-being and self-care practices that can help prevent addiction. Information and help is available by calling Health Link or the Addiction Helpline at 1-866-332-2322.
