Impact Grande Prairie spreading purple for Family Violence Prevention Month

The month of November is Family Violence Prevention Month, and Impact Grande Prairie is looking to bring awareness to the community by encouraging community members to wear the colour purple. Coordinator Madison Clark says that the goal of the month is to draw attention to family violence.

“To show people that it is preventable and there are ways of addressing it,” Clark says. “We are trying to spread the colour purple, and wear purple ribbons to draw awareness to family violence awareness.”

The spreading of the colour purple is a part of the #GoPurpleGP online campaign the organization is running during November.  Everyone is encouraged to take and share pictures on their social media wearing purple. Clark says that the photo can be of yourself, your team at work, your family, friends etc. but the key is to share the picture and use #GoPurpleGP in your posts.

“All the participants will be entered for a draw. The draw will happen weekly, every Friday someone will be drawn for a $50 gift card.”

Along with the online community initiative, on November 12th Impact will be taking over the Grande Prairie Storm game.  The doors open at 6 p.m. and the puck drop is at 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to come out to the game wearing purple.
