Leanne Beaupre not seeking reelection as County of Grande Prairie Reeve

For the first time in over a decade, there will be a new Reeve in the County of Grande Prairie.

“There will be an organizational meeting on Monday, and at this time I have made the decision not to let my name stand for reelection as Reeve,” Leanne Beaupre tells mygrandeprairienow.com.

Beaupre, who was first elected as Reeve in October 2012, says she would be lying if she said she wouldn’t miss parts of the job, but says the time has come for her to concentrate on not only her constituents but family as well.

“I’ve been the Reeve for 10 years, and I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve done… it’s been a huge learning curve and a huge opportunity. Things have changed within my life, and I see this as a really great opportunity to help transition the county into the next phase with a new reeve, and still be part of council to be able to support whoever that individual is.”

“I have in excess of 4,000 in my division in the County of Grande Prairie that really deserve my attention as well. Not that I think I didn’t give them attention before, but, now I’ll be able to focus on some of those community organizations as well as residents in Division 3,” she adds.

Beaupre says she will continue serving as a member of County of Grande Prairie Council, and believes whoever takes over in the seat will have the same opportunity to put their mark on the region.

“Hopefully with the transition comes new opportunity, and the county is well positioned to be a leader in municipal government and I don’t see that the next person who fills that chair and the seat that I had won’t’ take advantage of all of that either,” she adds.

The County of Grande Prairie Council Organizational meeting begins at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 24th.
