Grande Prairie Storm won’t host 2017 RBC Cup

Hosting the 2017 RBC Cup isn’t in the cards for the Grande Prairie Storm. Hockey Canada has chosen the Cobourg Cougars out of Ontario to host the national Junior A Championship.

The Cobourg Community Centre was recently picked as one of the five best junior hockey arena complexes by the Ontario Hockey Association and the Cougars organization is celebrating its 50th year as a member of the OJHL.

The Storm submitted a bid earlier this spring, hoping to bring back the event that was last held in the Swan City in 2004.  The team reportedly plans to keep applying, but for now they’ll have to win the regional championships to attend.
