High Prairie infant’s death deemed homicide

The death of an infant in High Prairie has been deemed a homicide. The sudden death of the seven-month-old at a home in the town was reported to RCMP around 4:30 p.m. on October 6th.

Local police investigated the death and an autopsy was conducted Tuesday at the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. That’s when it was determined the manner of death was homicide.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation with the help of High Prairie RCMP, Alberta RCMP Forensic Identification Services, and the Western Alberta District RCMP General Investigation Section.

No further details have been released, but mounties say an update will be provided when further information can be given.
