Mounties investigating several commercial frauds in Grande Prairie

The Grande Prairie RCMP are investigating multiple reports of attempted frauds against commercial businesses in the city.

Police say they’ve received several reports from local businesses that have allegedly been targeted by a phishing scam. Authorities say the fraudsters are contacting companies, posing as legitimate subcontractors through an email similar to that of one used by a real organization that has conducted work for the target, and are then asking for updated banking information for the payment of services rendered.

Police are urging business owners to remain vigilant if they find themselves in similar situations. Anyone who believes they have been a target of this, or any other scam, is urged to call the Grande Prairie RCMP, or the Canadian Anti Fraud Center at 1-888-495-8501.
