Grande Prairie to hold vigil for missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls

A march and vigil for Sisters in Spirit Day will be held in Grande Prairie for the 13th time. On October 4th, people will gather at the Spirit Sisters Rock along the trail near Northwestern Polytechnic.

There, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit People will be honoured with a ceremony. Then the group will walk to the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre where they will share a meal.

The gathering will start at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear blue and bring a drum or rattle.

According to a 2014 report by the RCMP, more than 1,200 missing and murdered Indigenous women were reported between 1980 and 2012 in Canada. Indigenous groups say the number is likely more than 4,000.
