Regional EMS Foundation set to host wine auction, scotch tasting fundraisers

The Regional EMS Foundation hope a pair of upcoming fundraisers will finish off a long term capital plan that will see a new non-emergent vehicle soon on the streets of the Grande Prairie region.

The 22nd Annual Wine Fair & Auction will take place Friday, September 30th, with the 2nd Annual Scotch Tasting being served up on October 1st, both at the Pomeroy Hotel and Conference Centre.

Regional EMS Foundation Executive Director Amanda Frayn says the vehicle is being delivered to be customized and hopefully will be on the road early in 2023. She adds it will hopefully make a big difference not only for first responders, but for patients, as well.

“I would compare it to a disabled transport vehicle, things like wheelchair access, stretcher capability but also the ability for people to walk on and off. Rather than a vehicle that just transports people, it would still have a caretaker,” she says.

“It would be an ability to move a greater amount of people who have a low acuity, and go from hospital to hospital, or whatever they see fit, allowing for more of our emergency vehicles to stay on the road ready to respond to emergencies.”

Frayn adds while she knows times are difficult for many in the region, but she is hoping the community as a whole will once again show up in force to help get the wheels truly in motion.

“They just add up, these sort of capital programs do take a while to build funds, but at the same time, if we are able to have the support of the community, we can make a really big difference to our regional practitioners,” she adds.

You can find more information about the fundraisers on the Regional EMS Foundation website.
