Kevin McLean looking for a return to Grande Prairie council chambers

Former Grande Prairie city councillor Kevin McLean is looking to return to a seat around the table and will be running in the municipal council byelection.

McLean, who sat on council from 2010-2017, says despite coming up short in his bid in the 2021 general election, the seven years served on helped him fulfil one of his goals, and that’s connecting communities.

McLean says one particular focus of his, if he is elected, would be senior centres in the municipality. He says a recent trip to the Golden Age Centre, really hit home what a problem he believes it is.

“I believe seniors are overlooked,” he says. “It’s a city owned building, but they’re not covering their operational costs for a major senior centre. Which I find bewildering, and that needs to be fixed.”

McLean says in addition to covering operational costs for seniors centres, he believes another prudent step would be looking at bolstering the sheer number of suites available for those on a fixed income.

“We should be purchasing land allocated toward the Grande Prairie Spirit Foundation for a new senior home,” he adds.

The 2022 Grande Prairie city council byelection is set to take place October 17th.
