Local students heading to Skills Canada nationals

Two local high school students haves earned their way to the Skills Canada national competition.

Carissa Greer of St. Joseph Catholic High School won first place in Fashion Technology at the provincial event this week, after finishing second last year. Meanwhile, Beaverlodge Regional High’s Darci Peterson took gold in Junior Hairstyling.

Two others from Grande Prairie are coming home with medals. St. Joe’s student Morgan Winter took second in IT Software Solutions for Business – Level 1 while Peace Wapiti Academy’s Jamie Cote earned bronze in Outdoor Power and Recreation Equipment.

In total, 19 students from GP and the surrounding area competed. Greer and Peterson will head to nationals in Saskatoon at the end of May.
