Single credit courses available to PWSD students

Peace Wapiti School Division students now have an opportunity to get a leg up on their high school credits thanks to a number of single credit courses being offered at Peace Wapiti Academy.

However PWA teacher Debbie Terceros says its not just for students who are shy of a credits for graduation.

“It could be kids who are trying to make up an extra credit that they’re missing, it could be kids who don’t have any space in their calender timetable but there’s an interest that they want or, you know, there’s first aid coming up and there’s kids who think it’s just a good thing to have, but they just don’t have the space in their time table or it’s not a course that we can offer full time.”

The One Credit Wonder courses started up earlier this year at Peace Wapiti Academy.

Terceros says there’s a variety of different courses they can offer, and they are open to course suggestions from students as well.

“We’ve offered one in Nature and Wellness, we offered one in Computer Assisted Design, and we offered one in Fashion Illustration, and now we’re offering actually a two credit Wonder in May for First Aid.”

The program is open to all PWSD high school students, though there are no busing options currently available.

Terceros says if interest grows they may look at providing it to students as far north as Spirit River.
