Northern Lakes College opens brand new training facility in Peace River

A new steam lab for power engineering students is officially ready for use at the Northern Lakes College Peace River Campus.

The Power Engineering and Technology Centre has been in the works for several years now, helped along by donations from Shell Canada and Penn West.

At the presentation of a $1 Million grant from the federal government last summer, Northern Lakes College President and CEO Ann Everatt said that there is need in our region for the kind of training equipment this lab will provide.

Students will be able to earn there certification faster by using equipment in a controlled environment, rather than out in the field.

The new lab will provide will allow the college to train 80 more students annually through it’s power engineering program, and allow for greater access to skills training programs for First Nation and Metis communities in the region.
