Fire advisory back in place for Grande Prairie Forest Area

A fire advisory has been reinstated for the Grande Prairie Forest Area. That means no new burn permits will be issued until the region gets enough rain to remove it. Safe campfires are still allowed.

Wildfire information officer Melinda Paplawski says the recent warm weather and gusty wind Thursday afternoon has driven the wildfire hazard up in the Grande Prairie region. It’s now very high north of the city and high in parts to the south.

So far this season there have been 37 wildfires that have burned 5.8 hectares of land in the GP Forest Area. By this point last year 68 fires had burned a total of 138.58 hectares.
