GPRC students receive undergrad research awards

Four fourth year undergrad students at the Grande Prairie Regional College are receiving research awards. Anwar Tuhl, Kara Witow, Brittany Cowen, and Demica Pusch will get $5,000 to put their classroom work into practice. All the students are majoring in psychology.

Applied Scientist Michelle Yeung explains that the funds get them to turn their proposals into reality. For Tuhl and Pusch, their work will focus on the effectiveness of support systems for adolescent mental health. Witow will study if childhood ADHD is a barrier in organized sports. Cowen will be looking at the link between domestic violence and substance use with clients in the Odyssey House in Grande Prairie.

This is the first time the Undergrad Student Research Awards have been given out at the college. Yeung is mentoring the four women and she says the challenge has been worth it. She says it is rewarding to see results.
