Damaged cable means no landline service for part of County

About 750 homes and businesses in the County of Grande Prairie have temporarily lost their landline service. Telus says one of their cables was damaged, which affects outgoing and incoming calls in the area.

Cell phone coverage isn’t affected. The County says Telus workers are doing repairs and are expected to be done by 10 p.m.

An Alberta Emergency Alert has been issued since people in the area of Township Road 714 from Range Road 51 to Range Road 54 east of the City of Grande Prairie won’t be able to call 9-1-1 from a landline. In the meantime, anyone needing to contact emergency services is asked to do so using a cell phone.

Local first responders know about the issue and the County says their response shouldn’t be affected. 9-1-1 service is estimated to be restored by 8 p.m.
