Grande Prairie celebrates National Aboriginal Day

Today is set to recognize diverse cultures, outstanding achievements and the heritage of the First Nations, Inuit and Metis People. For National Aboriginal Day, there are different ways to celebrate in the Grande Prairie area.

The first one happens Wednesday night at the Friendship Centre. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., there is a bannock burger meal with a talent show being held.

On Sunday, a celebration will take place at the Amphitheater in Muskoseepi Park. The event is called “Honouring All My Relations”. It will feature jigging and fiddling. There will also be an award ceremony and activities for the kids. The event is organized by the Native Counselling of Alberta.

Children in the Peace Wapiti School Division will be enjoying some aboriginal culture on the Wednesday as well. Teepee Creek School, Benzanson and Ridgevalley Schools, Penson School and Hythe Regional School are all taking part in activities. These include singing, jigging, storytelling and drumming.
