Spring snow slows bridge construction at 68th Avenue

The first part of the project to get underway for construction season was the bridge at 68th Avenue but with the recent snowfall, work was slowed down. City Engineer Daniel Dawson says they are pouring concrete for the joints at the west and east ends of the bridge. He says this part is a piece needed for expansion.

“They have to pour concrete. We are lucky to have poured the west end before the snow came back. They have to cover the area with tarp to protect it from the weather.”

Dawson explains that the materials are very weather dependent.

“Once they complete the west side, they will move to the east side expansion joint, again weather dependent.”

If the weather impacts the quality, the expansion part would have to be redone. He explains that it is important to do it right because it can result in having to do it over. There is a timeline set for June for completion of the bridge portion of the project.

There is plans to have construction begin after the May Long weekend on the remainder of the road depending on the weather. The whole project is set for completion in August 2017.
