The City of Grande Prairie is going to help five low-income households make a down payment on their house. The Affordable Home Ownership Assistance Program has been running since 2008 with help from Alberta Municipal Affairs. Seventy-three have been given out since then.
The families will get $20,000 towards the first down payment on their house. To apply, at least one family member must attend a Homeownership 101 session, outlining the basics of what a homeowner needs to know.
Of the five grants available, one is made possible through the Off-Reserve Aboriginal Housing Program and will be awarded to an eligible Aboriginal family.
You can find more information on the city’s website.
