Earthy smell in Grande Prairie tap water only temporary: Aquatera

It seems to happen every year around this time: the tap water in Grande Prairie starts to smell a little earthy. Aquatera assures residents that the water is perfectly safe to drink, and should get back to normal soon.

The smell comes around during the spring melt, when snow from the mountains is running into the local watershed. The sudden earthy or chlorine-like smell generally happens in the final stages.

Aquatera says it is working to minimize the smell using chlorine. To help reduce it, keep a jug of water in your fridge with a slice of lemon or ginger, and run the tap a little longer before filling up a glass.
