Grande Prairie part of day against racial discrimination

A multicultural meet and greet is being held in Grande Prairie this afternoon as the city marks the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Cultural dancers and singers will be putting on a show at the Teresa Sargent Hall from 3 to 7 p.m. and the event is free to attend.

The UN has designated March 21st as a day to combat racism and discrimination worldwide. On this day in 1960, 69 peaceful protesters were killed by police while they demonstrated against apartheid laws in a South African townville.

This is the fourth time the city has held a similar event, following others in 2011, 2012, and 2015.
